Latvia Flag

€10,00

The flag of Latvia is a simple yet distinctive design featuring two horizontal maroon bands with a narrow white stripe in the center. The maroon color, which is unique among national flags, symbolizes the readiness of the Latvians to defend their freedom and sovereignty, while the white stripe represents peace, independence, and truth. According to legend, the flag dates back to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest flags in the world. The story tells of a wounded Latvian tribal leader whose blood-stained sheet became a battle standard, with the white area left untouched where he had lain. Officially adopted in 1918 when Latvia first gained independence, the flag was banned during Soviet occupation but was restored in 1990, just before Latvia regained its independence in 1991. Today, the Latvian flag stands as a powerful symbol of national identity, resilience, and historical continuity.
