Monaco Flag

The flag of Monaco is a simple design featuring two horizontal bands—red on the top and white on the bottom. These colors have been associated with the House of Grimaldi, the ruling family of Monaco, for centuries. The red and white are traditional heraldic colors symbolizing courage and purity. The flag’s design is almost identical to that of Indonesia’s flag, but Monaco’s flag has different proportions, being shorter and wider. Officially adopted in 1881, the flag represents Monaco’s sovereignty, heritage, and identity as one of the world’s smallest yet wealthiest sovereign states.
